Karen McMullen, Founder and Principal

The McMullen Group is headed by Karen McMullen, a former senior vice president and regional director of the Center for Financial Training (CFT), and President & CEO of the American Institute of Banking of NJ (AIB.)  With more than forty years experience, she has managed and developed a multitude of programs in a wide variety of subject areas. For eight years Karen managed a five-day commercial lending school in New Jersey, attracting registrants from all over the country.

Karen’s major accomplishments include but are not limited to:

  • Launched the first in a series of online courses which ultimately converted a significant portion of the association’s curriculum to an online format;

  • Responsible for gaining college credit recommendations approval for all three-credit AIB/CFT courses through the American Council on Education (Washington, DC) as well as managing several cooperative degree programs with Thomas Edison State College; 

  • Developed and designed innovative non-traditional business opportunities including:

    • PC Ed personal computer education program

    • Contract Training customized training for delivery on or off-site to corporations seeking outsourcing options

    • Government-funded pre-employment training programs (i.e., Money Transfer Skills and Banking Office Skills)

    • Community Development Initiatives including Home Buyer’s Counseling Coalition, Senior Citizen Education Program (for fraud prevention) MoneyWi$e (financial literacy curriculum for high school juniors and seniors) and the Kids Financial Network (financial literacy training for grades K-6)

    • Grant program for individuals with disabilities in partnership with the Raise Hope Foundation, Inc

    • Leadership Academy offering management workshops and a nine-month Emerging Leaders program now in its second successful year

Greg Benson, Senior Partner

Is a nationally known expert in BSA/AML and compliance/security matters.  He has more than 40 years of financial service industry experience in commercial banks, savings and loans, private consulting and trade association work, with a special emphasis on compliance and security issues. Mr. Benson presently serves as Managing Director and CEO, Benson Consulting, Fairfax, Virginia in which he provides private consulting and training services nationally and internationally to financial institutions, federal and state regulatory and law enforcement agencies, international money transfer operations, and numerous banking trade associations.  Mr. Benson also serves in a part-time capacity as Senior Advisor for MSB Compliance, Inc. Atlanta, Georgia.  Mr. Benson holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and Organization from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.

 
Harry Cooper, Senior Partner

Harry worked 45 years in the banking industry, primarily in the area of finance. He was the Controller for Broadway Bank in Paterson, NJ, where he worked from 1972-1992. In 1994, he joined Lakeland Bank in Oak Ridge, NJ, where he was the Controller and later became a Vice President – Finance, where he managed the Treasury and Investor Relations functions for the bank, until his retirement in 2015. Additionally, Harry has worked for the past 36 years as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking/Center for Financial Training.  Harry has a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University and is also a graduate of the Bank Administration Institute - Graduate School of Banking.

 
Yolanda DiMari, Senior Partner

Yolanda DiMari  is a skilled HR professional innovating and executing strategies to enhance the company’s culture and core values by improving employee performance, enhancing talent development, increasing organizational effectiveness, and supporting change. Yolanda is an excellent team builder, coach and consultant on HR issues, coaching executives and line managers on a broad range of employment related issues. Proactive talent developer encouraging learning and promoting increased productivity resulting in value-added customer service. She is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist and has an MA in Human Resources Management from The New School.

Susan Head, CFP, Senior Partner

For 25+ years, Susan Head, Principal of Philanthropic Services, LLC, has provided the following consultative services for not-for-profit clients:  serving as co-trustee on charitable trusts and foundations; assisting foundations and pubic charities in establishing policies; developing mission and mission statements; developing strategic plans; developing grant guidelines, site visit guidelines, and evaluating success of grants.  Susan is a Certified Financial Planner, and earned her MBA in Finance with Fairleigh Dickenson University.  She currently serves on a number of not-for-profit boards and committees including Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Montclair State University College of the Arts, Christian Health Care Center and The Discovery Orchestra.

 
Susan Mach, Ph.D., Senior Partner

Susan Mach is a communication trainer, coach and strategist who works with a broad array of clients, ranging from executive leadership teams to customer service teams.  She is owner of Mach Creative Services, a full-service communication firm.  The firm helps clients communicate clearly, crisply and convincingly to the media, shareholders, analysts, customers, employees, consumer advocates, nonprofits and public officials.  Mach Creative coaches executives in client-friendly report writing, leadership communication, negotiation, fostering a sales culture and change management. The firm has served such clients as AT&T, Euromoney Learning Solutions, Ford, General Electric, Lucent Technologies, New York Life, Prudential, Siemens, Sprint, Toyota, IBM, UPS, and Time Warner.  Susan is a part-time professor at top metro-New York business schools: NYU Stern, Rutgers Business School and the CUNY Baruch/Mt. Sinai Healthcare M.B.A. program.  She teaches M.B.A. students from all over the world how to develop the ultimate career advantage: being a strong communicator at work.  She is on the faculty of the N.J. Bankers Emerging Leaders Academy. Her Bryn Mawr doctorate is in history and philosophy. 

 
Joe W. May, Senior Partner

Joe May provides commercial credit expertise in developing, underwriting, administration, and collection of commercial loans.  He helps bank with merger integration as well as banks needing to improve their commercial lending.  Joe has several decades of successful experience in financial services with primary responsibility for the institutions’ asset quality.  In this role, Joe has served as an executive vice president and chief credit officer responsible for credit underwriting, administration, and policy yielding consistent loan growth and low (0.02%) losses.

 

Joe is currently a Banking Consultant on Credit Underwriting and Collection developing policies, procedures and training (2000 – present.)  Past positions include Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for Whitney National Bank (1993-2000) and EVP and Chief Credit Policy Officer for Manufacturer’s National/Comerica Inc. (1988-1993), and Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for MNC Financial, Inc. (1978-1988.)

 

He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, B.S. and M.B.A. NACM Graduate School of Credit and Finance, Stanford University.  Joe is a life member of RMA (1971-), and past National president and current Mentor author and instructor.

Steven S. Radin, Esq., Senior Partner

Steven S. Radin, Esq. is one of the founding partners of Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. located in Newark, NJ. He represents insurance companies and banks in a variety of matters and has extensive experience in trial and settlement negotiations with respect to major insurance carriers on D&O liability insurance policies, insurance coverage, agent and company contract issues, and reinsurance issues.

 

Steve is the former Deputy Attorney General for the Department of Banking and Insurance. He was appointed as Special Counsel to the New Jersey Commissioner of Insurance for the liquidation of the Integrity Insurance Company . He also served as Special Counsel to the New Jersey Commissioner of Banking and Insurance in the rehabilitation of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company and as Special Counsel to the New Jersey Commissioner of Banking and Insurance in Liquidator of HIP of New Jersey Inc.

 

Mr. Radin has appeared before many state insurance departments representing major insurance companies, agents and licensees of a multitude of regulatory insurance issues. He serves on the Board of Visitors and Subcommittee of Resources and Capital Planning of the Columbia University Law School and as a Director of the Regional Business Partnership, formerly the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce. Steve received his A.B. at Seton Hall University and LLB. at Columbia University.

Cindy Rowan, Ph.D., Senior Partner

Cindy is a seasoned professional with an extensive background in banking;  having successfully served in a variety of positions within the retail, lending, and credit areas as well as a senior officer in the areas of human resources, training, and development. Since 1992, Cindy has served as President of her own consulting firm, Performance Management Solutions; a company that has helped many financial service organizations improve their profitability through organizational design and talent development. In addition to her work within individual banks, Cindy currently serves as the Academic Program Director to the New Jersey Bankers “Emerging Leaders Program” as well as an instructor in their Leadership Academy. Cindy holds a professional certification in Career Planning & Development from the University of Michigan’s Graduate School of Business Administration and a doctoral degree from Seton Hall University’s (NJ)College of Education and Human Services in Leadership, Administration, and Policy.

Jamie Schenck, Senior Partner

Prior to establishing Training Dynamics in 1995, Jamie worked for financial institutions in New Jersey and California. In the branch structure, she was an Assistant Manager as well as a Trust Officer, handling municipal accounts. Her expertise and most of her banking career, however, was in training and development. Previously Jamie was a Senior Trainer, managing all contract training assignments for the Center for Financial Training in New Jersey.  A few of the many projects that she provides include Conversion Training, New Hire Training, and Introduction to Customer Services and Sales for Financial Institutions.  Jamie also works with clients on the design and development of Procedures Manuals.

Connie Whitman, Senior Partner

Has more than 33 years’ experience as a sales, service, coaching, training and development expert, author, radio show host, international speaker, and CEO of Whitman & Associates.  She is also the CEO and Co-Founder of Wisdom De-Coded.  She helps businesses grow their sales and revenue streams by improving internal and external communication skills while developing strong relationship based sales cultures.  Ms. Whitman holds an MBA from Monmouth University and a BA in Business Administration from Rutgers University.

Phil Vassallo, Ed.D, Senior Partner

Has designed, delivered, and supervised online and classroom-based communication training programs for more than 20,000 executive, managerial, supervisory, administrative, and technical professionals internationally over the past three decades. He is the author of the books How to Write Fast Under Pressure, The Art of E-Mail Writing, and The Art of On-the-Job Writing. He has edited major reports for corporate and government clients, and he writes the blog Words on the Line, which offers practical tips for developing writers. Dr. Vassallo has taught internationally, recently as a faculty member of the Beijing International MBA program.
